Escovedo record release party slated for June 26 to 28 at Continental Club
At Tuesday night’s record release gig for James McMurtry’s “Just Us Kids,” Alejandro Escovedo announced he and his band would play a three-night stand June 26 to 28 to celebrate the release of his new album, “Real Animal” (Back Porch). Escovedo, looking lithe and energetic, promised to “have the string” with them and lots of “good friends” help out on songs.
He also said that the vinyl would be available June 10, but the CD not until June 24.
As Michael Corcoran noted last week, the new material is smokin’, a total return to two-guitar burn. He opened with “Chelsea Hotel,” an ode to the bad old days of hanging out with Neon Leon and too much junkie business. “Always a Friend,” the song he played with Springsteen in Houston the night before followed. “Everybody Loves Me” is still a monster (love to hear the chunky coda extended into a guitar duel sometime).
Outstanding.
