Prince and Pitchfork in the news
Some music news you might have missed:
Prince will headline Coachella. He plays day 2 of the three-day festival, which is April 25-27 in Indio, Calif. Also on the lineup: Jack Johnson, Roger Waters, the Raconteurs, Kraftwerk, Portishead, My Morning Jacket, M.I.A., Death Cab for Cutie and the Verve.
Watch this space Tuesday for the lineup for Austin’s ACL Fest, which is Sept. 26-28 at Zilker Park.
Pitchfork has launched an online site that they hope will become the MTV of the Internet. From an Associated Press story:
Pitchfork.tv was launched this week by the influential indie music Web site PitchforkMedia.com. The new site features streaming “carefully curated” music videos, concerts and features.
In describing itself, Pitchfork.tv laments the loss of the 24-hour music network and calls itself “the first-ever music video channel dedicated to the documentation of independent music.”
In what’s surely a dig at MTV, VH1 and Fuse, the site proclaims: “We’ve waited decades for a music channel that respects our intelligence and reflects our ideals. Now that the technology is here, we hope to finally do it the way that people who really care about music have always wanted to see it done.”
