Willie’s Place at Carl’s Corner to open July 3
Truckstop owner and longtime Willie Nelson crony Carl Cornelius tells the Waco Tribune that Willie and Family will christen the 30,000-square foot “Willie’s Place,” which includes a honky tonk, restaurant, a poker room and trucker amenities, with a concert July 3. Carl’s Corner, formerly known for the giant musician frogs on the roof, is on IH-35 about 40 miles north of Waco.
Willie, Cornelius and investors bought up a bunch of land bordering Carl’s Corner and have big development plans. Cornelius says here that Carl’s Corner may eventually rival Branson, MO as a mecca of country music.
Top-rated XM Satellite Radio show, “Willie’s Place,” which has about three million listeners, will be broadcast from the honky-tonk once it’s completed. DJ Eddie Kilroy has already moved to the area from Washington, D.C.
“Willie’s Place at Carl’s Corner” will also process and sell biodeisel fuel.

My husband and I have been watching the progress of Willies’s Place for the past couple of years. We are winter Texans from Ohio and we come through Waco at least 2 times a year. Our son lives near Waco and works for the state of Tx. I was wondering if their is any chance of our getting tickets for when we come back down in Oct. We have a friend come over every Yhursday night to play dominoes and we listen to Willie’s Place on Direct TV. Thank you for all you have done. Marilyn

The Free Willie show is July 3. Ray Wylie Hubbard and David Allan Coe play free shows July 1 and 2.
