Negativland to play Alamo Ritz

Pioneering sound collage band Negativland will perform its weekly radio broadcast “Over the Edge” live on stage for the first time April 18 and 19 at the Alamo Ritz. Both shows jump off at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $16.

This is the band’s first Austin show in eight years.

Since 1981, “Over the Edge” has blended music, found sounds, found dialogue, scripts, personalities, and sound effects in a surreal, funny, wickedly smart program. According to the band, “It’s All in Your Head” is “a 2-hour-long, action-packed look at monotheism, the supernatural God concept, and the all-important role played by the human brain in our beliefs.”

They are a band like no other, but many may remember them from such lawsuits as that one that involved U2, SST Records, Island Records.

To this day, I regret buying the cassette version of Negativland’s “U2” in a Portland, Maine, record store in 1991 and not the LP or CD.

Check out Negativland’s website for the full story.
