noise, blues, rock, etc.

If Monday’s put you in the mood for sheets of sound, check out improvisational noise dealers Aurora Plastics Company, harsh electronics artists Xathax, Television Ends and like dogs tonight at Plush (617 Red River St., 478-0099). The noise starts at 10:30… .

The local teenaged blues band Blues Mafia, whose guitarist Max Frost was discovered at the age of 12 playing a solo in Strait Music back in 2005, is playing a couple of showcase-style shows in L.A. Jan. 18 to 20. According to their press kit, Shel Talmy, responsible for producing epic early work by the Who and the Kinks, will be there. White Demin is heading out with the Walkmen and White Rabbits across the Midwest for a few dates. The band has released a second single on Rcrd Lbl Records. Check it out here

Mohawk has replaced its old P.A., which I think we can now safely characterize as “borderline unprofessional” and “completely inadequate to deal with the hordes of jerks who just wouldn’t shut the heck up during Vampire Weekend’s set,” with lots of fancy new stuff that sounds better. Praise be! …
