Your A-List: Best Hard Rock/Metal Band
Rock is like a box of chocolates. Sometimes you want to relax with the malty smoothness of a thoughtful indie band. Sometimes you want to cram a handful of boozy hard-rock bonbons in your mouth and get crazy.
With 21% of the vote, this week’s A-List winner for Best Hard Rock/Metal Band, New Disaster, narrowly beat out Austin vets Sword and Tia Carrera, who finished second and third, respectively. The Disaster’s sound is a sleazy homage to the Sunset Strip rock of Guns-n-Roses and Mötley Crüe with overdriven guitar riffs and lyrics that sound like a Penthouse Forum letter. Mark Johnson left behind the saccharine pop-punk of the Riddlin’ Kids to form New Disaster with drummer Rob Williamson, singer Natchet Taylor and guitarist Abel Idle, who is one of the best shredders in the city. Don’t expect any sappy monster ballads from these guys. Grab a double Jack-and-Coke, push your way to the front of the stage and enjoy.
