ACL: The chair crisis

chairs.jpg

Donna and Jeffrey West, who’ve been coming from Maryland the past four years, were mildly disappointed that the “no chairs beyond this point” signs were set back more than 50 feet from last year’s boundary. They came early Sunday and set up about 100 yards from the AMD stage. “I think they’ve got it backwards,” Donna West said. “It should be chairs in the front and standing in the back.” Jeffrey West added that, despite the set back, they’ll bring their chairs again next year. “It’s still our favorite festival. We just wish we were a little closer.”

I totally disagree. The chair line has made such a wonderful difference this year. ACL is 100 times better now that they enforce a larger standing area. You can fit so many more people in if the chairs are gone. You can get up close and see all the bands you love without having to wade through a sea of chairs. Plus, lots of people in years past would leave chairs to reserve spots while they were seeing other performers. I hope they continue to enforce this rule.

The folding chair is a crutch for the lazy festival goer. Rather than complain about being moved further from the stage, these folks should be thankful that chairs are allowed into this festival at all…as they probably won’t be for much longer.

‘lazy festival goers’?

LOL if you want the festival to thrive, you’ll allow for the over 30s who you know, PAY for these types of events, to carry their chairs inside.
