No Radiohead for ACL.

Austin City Limits promoter Charles Attal confirmed Monday that Radiohead will not be part of this year’s ACL Fest in September.

“We couldn’t make the scheduling work” Attal said. Neither Pollstar nor the band’s website has any tour dates for the band.

Radiohead is currently posting on its blog and working on their next album.

The band’s six-album contract with EMI is up and it is not known if the band will release the next album themselves, sign with a new label, distribute over the Internet or simply inscribe the thing on one lacquer and invite everyone who wants to hear it ‘round for tea.

Austin Sounds on ‘Spider-Man’ soundtrack

An unsigned Austin band, which plays once a month at Lucky Lounge, has landed a track on the “Spider-Man 3” soundtrack. Though their “Portrait of a Summer Thief” is not heard in the highly anticipated movie, Sounds Under Radio is on the official soundtrack CD, alongside such names as the Killers, Jet, Flaming Lips and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “It’s pretty crazy,” says Sounds bassist Bradley Oliver. “We’ve been getting some major label interest since word got out.” The CD hits stores May 1.

Sounds Under Radio, which includes drummer Sonny Sanchez and guitarists Lang Freeman and Doug Wilson, got their lucky break when 311’s manager Peter Raspler, who used to manage Sanchez’ former band Sunflower, got a copy of Sounds’ “Cinematica” LP to a friend who’s big in music placement in films. Eventually, a higher up at Sony Pictures listened to the CD and asked the band if they could record something new for possible inclusion on the indie-focused soundtrack CD.

“We thought we had already recorded a song that would fit - ‘Portrait of a Summer Thief,’ ” Oliver says. “We asked them to listen to track number two again.” Sony eventually agreed with the Sounds, who have been together just three years. The next local Sounds Under Radio show is May 11 at the Parish.
