Cash’s home goes up in ring of … no, can’t do it.

AP is reporting that the late Johnny Cash’s lake front home in Hendersonville, Tenn. has been destroyed by fire.

As the story notes, part of the video for Cash’s 2003 Nine Inch Nails cover “Hurt” was filmed there.

The clip for “Hurt” is regarded by many people of taste and culture as the greatest music video ever made. We’re really not kidding about this.

Go ahead, try to watch it without tearing up by the end, even if you’ve seen it a million times. Can’t be done.

I resemble that remark!

From the label description for Snake Apartment’s”Paint the Walls” album, emphasis mine:

“Snake Apartment let twelve gross inches of ugly, noisy punk slither out of Rhode Island. Heavy scuzz rock drenched in syrup puts on its studio shoes and has a loose night out on the town, sounding like a shelved Am Rep gem just dusted off …Here’s a small glimmer of hope for middle aged losers who enjoy late Black Flag, Flipper, Brainbombs, Drunks With Guns, God Bullies, and TAD, and neo hipsters and indie label CEO’s falling over themselves with glee over bands like Clockcleaner.”

To which I can only say: To whom do I make out the check?

Anthem for a generation

Jarvis Cocker writes the “Something’s happening here/ what it is ain’t exactly clear” for the MySpace generation….

From “I Will Kill Again,” off of the almost-as-outstanding album “Jarvis:”

“Log on in the nighttime/Drink a half-bottle of wine/Buy a couple of records/Look at naked girls from time to time.”

Who will headline ACL fest?

The lineup for the sixth annual Austin City Limits Music Festival, to be held Sept. 14- 16 at Zilker Park, is at least a month away from its official unveiling, so the rumors have been flying furiously. The Police and Pearl Jam are two names being thrown around, along with last year’s wish listers: Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers. And it sure looks like the reunited Smashing Pumpkins (Billy Corgan’s back together again), who are playing every festival that doesn’t include a livestock contest, are headed here in September.

But the Police are definitely not playing ACL. They’ve got dates in Amsterdam during ACL. And fest booker Charles Attal told me that Pearl Jam is not on the bill. Asked about the Pumpkins and the Chili Peppers, Attal Blackberried back that the headliners are even bigger.

Who could he be referring to? Radiohead, for starters. The British band hasn’t announced a U.S. tour yet, but this could be the year. Also, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan seem about ripe for their ACL Fest debut. I’m going to guess that the White Stripes and Foo Fighters- two acts looking to tour heavily this summer and fall - will be among the biggies coming to Austin.

Alanis Morrisette’s “Humps”

Yes, everyone has probably seen this already, but since it’s thusfar the video of the year, it seemed reasonable to repost it.
