Your A-List: Best TV Reporter
As the polls closed, Castano outdistanced Wolfson, gaining as many votes as everyone else in the field combined. Castano reports for the NBC affiliate’s evening newscasts, often fronting the night’s big story.
The Oregon native started at KXAN in 2007, after spending her early years in the TV biz reporting and producing news in her home state, as well as a stint as a disc jockey.
Although her job generally concerns serious matters, Castano finds humorous respite in the writings of David Sedaris along with musical diversions in the form of the music of Shakira, according to her bio on the KXAN site.

Castano cheated. Your system for voting is bogus. Everyone in Austin knows who the best reporter is, and any idiot knows how to manipulate computer voting. Of course, as long as your paycheck keeps rolling in it doesnt matter right!!!

Eat some more sour grapes Patron. You sound like you are bitter because you lost and writing under a anonymous name just proves it. I’ve known Castano for years, she doesn’t cheat. However, she does have a lot of family and friends. Get a life. Dirk

Carla is by far the best reporter I’ve seen since I moved to Austin. Most of the stations here are cheesy, but she always has the best stories! Very beautiful person inside and out. I’ve known her a while and she does have many friends and family that care alot about her. Patron, you need to suck it up and realize that Carla is the best. If “any idiot knows how to manipulate computer voting” then why didn’t your person win? Huh? Prolly cause you have no idea what you are talking about. Carla would never cheat!

Oh puleeze, get over it. It’s a stupid chessy newspaper poll. Hardly scientific. Someone else said it best… “she has LOTS of family and friends”. And they have lots of family and friends… and they have lots of family…
Anyway, Carla may be a ‘good’ reporter (actually she’s not, but work with me here) but Kate Weidaw is far better at KXAN. In fact I’d like to see her move to a better station. Anyway, I see ten people on the list that are far superior in talent and camera presence. I agree the voting system is skewed. Just look at the results for best neighborhood. Hello, Hyde Park nor Travis Heights are even in the top 3?!?!? (and I don’t live in either)

It would have been nice to know this poll was even going on. I would have gotten my BIG FAT GREEK family to vote. LOL. Maybe next time. Congrats Castano! All the reporters in Austin are great. We all work hard everyday cause we care about Austin. Everyone is a winner.
