Your A-List: Best Liquor Store

With 60 percent of the vote Austin’s own Twin Liquors took the crown of Best Liquor Store from last year’s winner, the newish Spec’s. Growing up, there was a jingle for a dry cleaners that stated if you couldn’t find one of their locations in 10 minutes, you were lost. The same could be said for Twin, which has 53 stores in the Greater Austin area. That’s a lot of convenient booze. The local family-owned and operated company, which can be spotted sponsoring events around town, also offers in-store specials, such as their popular in-store wine tastings at 4 p.m. each week. A fantastic way to get your weekend off to the right start.

Twin Liquors opened in downtown Austin in 1982, but its roots actually extend all the way back to the late 1800s. Read more about the company’s detailed history on their Web site.

Good to see that true locals have won both the wine and the liquor contests! Just goes to show the loyalty of Austinites!

Too bad that none of them offer organic wines. I have to go to Whole Foods for mine. You’d think that with 53 stores, Twin Liquors would have a large enough market for it. Organice wine is labeled “No Sulphites Added”.

Sandy: Many of the Twin’s stores carry organic wine under the label “Bonterra”

Also, Twins carries other “organic” wines like Sterling Organic Label. But “organic” doesn’t necessarily mean “no sulfites added”. Try drinking something from France, Spain, or Italy. Most are “organic” but dont fuss with putting it on the label. It drives up prices.

I tend to favor small local owned neigborhood store as found at Spirit Wine & Liquor on 2222 across from 3M. where they know your name and will take the time to educate you and converse with you about any subject.

the employee is the owner and he cares about his product and his customer something hard to find in NW austin
