Muckelroy is a Bengal

Cincinnati has drafted a second-straight Longhorn, taking linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy in the fourth round.

Late Friday, the Bengals tapped receiver Jordan Shipley. Cincy already has two former Texas standouts on the roster in running back Cedric Benson and receiver Quan Cosby.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis apparently thinks Muckelroy would fit in best as an outside linebacker, but Cincy linebackers coach Jeff Fitzgerald also is talking about him as a middle ‘backer, writes Joe Reedy, the Bengals beatwriter for the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Muckelroy is the sixth Longhorn to be selected during the NFL’s three-day draft, which ends today with rounds 4 through 7.

So far:

  • Earl Thomas: Safety went to Seattle with the 16th pick of the first round.

  • Sergio Kindle: Went to the Baltimore Ravens — who plan to use him at linebacker — in the second round (43rd overall).

  • Lamarr Houston: Defensive tackle was picked right after Kindle, by the Raiders with the 44th overall pick.

  • Jordan Shipley: Receiver was chosen by the Bengals in the third round — 84th overall.

  • Colt McCoy: Was taken by the Cleveland Browns immediately after Shipley was picked, 85th overall.

  • Roddrick Muckelroy: Linebacker was taken 131st overall, by the Bengals with a compensatory pick at the end of the fourth round.

I'm a Bengals fan, transplanted to Texas. Over the years I have become a huge UT fan and I can't tell you how many prayers I offered up for us to draft Ship and sure enough he's gonna be in orange stripes! We love Ced and Quan in Cincy and it will be good see Colt play, though of course I can't root for him two games per year (when he plays us!). Congratulations to the Horns for such a great showing in the NFL draft the last couple of years!

The Cincinnati Longhorns. I kinda like the sound of that. They'll maybe rival Tennessee for having the most Horns.
