Titans put “franchise” tag on Texas ex Scaife
The Tennessee Titans today designated tight end Bo Scaife, a former Longhorn, as the team’s “franchise player,” a contractual move that keeps Scaife from becoming a free agent this off-season.
Reports the Nashville Tennesseean:
“I just hope I can go out there and make everyone proud — the fans, the city, my teammates and just continue doing what I’m doing,’’ Scaife said on Thursday. “I know there are a lot of big things still ahead for me. I’m going to keep working.’’ The franchise tag means Scaife, who led the Titans in receptions last season with 58, will be paid $4.46 million in 2009. That’s the average salary of the five highest-paid tight ends in the league.

Who would have thought Bo Scaife would earn $4.4 million in a year? That's awesome. Way to go Bo. I don't think he'll do any better in free agency in 2010, do any tight ends other than Gonzalez, Heap and Gates make that much money? He must be in the top ten of highest paid tight ends in the league. Wow.

Well outside of the editorial corrections posted before mine, congratulations Bo, you make us all proud to call you a Longhorn.

Bruce. Good point. as Mark Twain would put it; If you don't read the newspaper you are uninformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.

I realize this is just a "notes and news" column, but would y'all please learn how to write? Scaife is not "the teams's 'franchise player.'" He has been tagged as A franchise player for Tennessee - they are not limited to one. One sentence story, and the AAS still screws it up. These continuous errors in style and content chip away at the already-dubious credibility of the Statesman.

I'm so happy to see him doing well after he went through so much with his injuries. I always believed he would excel. I wish him well. Way to go Bo.
