The medical examiner’s office of Gwinnett County (Ga.) ruled Thursday that former Longhorn Shane Dronett committed suicide, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Dronett’s wife summoned police at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to their home in suburban Atlanta, saying her husband had taken his life.
Dronett starred at Texas from 1989-91. He played in the NFL from 1992-2002 for Denver and Atlanta.

So sorry for his family...and for him. It must be devastating for a person to feel that that is their only way out.
His wife and children are in for a long road ahead filled with grief and questions. May God bless and comfort them all.

It's sad to see anyone do this. It's not unusual among former football players though; I know Andre Waters, former Eagles safety, did a few years ago and have heard of others. It seems like it's starting to get more common, so the NFL needs to get some studies and support systems in place. The NFL has gotten a bad rap about its treatment of former players and the measly pensions they receive. It better watch out of bad press and karma are going to come back to haunt it and knock it off its pedestal.

I hate to see that he got to a point, physically and/or mentally, whre he felt he had no other option. I feel for his family who now have to deal with the loss of a hsuband and father.
