Osterman is first pick in fastpitch league draft
Texas pitcher Cat Osterman was the No. 1 draft pick Wednesday in the National Pro Fastpitch league. She was selected by the Connecticut Brakettes, who will play their inaugural NPF season this year.
Longhorn outfielder Tina Boutelle was taken in the fourth round by the Texas Thunder of Houston.
Other highlights of the draft: Alabama pitcher Stephanie VanBrackle was the second pick by the Philadelphia Force, followed by UCLA third baseman Andrea Duran (Connecticut Brakettes), Oklahoma outfielder Kristin Vesely (New England Riptide), Arizona pitcher Alicia Hollowell (Arizona Heat), Michigan pitcher Jennie Ritter (Akron Racers), UCLA catcher Emily Zaplatosch (Texas Thunder), UCLA second baseman Caitlin Benyi (Akron Racers) and Tennessee third baseman Kristi Durant (New England Riptide).
