You may feel like a denizen of Julian Barnes’ choir loft after reading his deathly treatise “Nothing to be afraid of”. His treatment of the ultimate finality is quite comfortable. I hope you like it, too.
Hi Chris,
I studied abroad in Buenos Aires for 6 months and loved it. Once you get over the ticket price, it’s a very affordable place to vist. Several of my visitors rented apartments because it was more affordable than hotels. The city of Buenos Aires has a delicious mix of European flare and the provincialism that you’d find in the rest of the country. If you go you must: 1) dance the tango; 2) visit the ferias; 3) stay out all night at a disco; 4) eat pizza and gelato - large Italian influence; 4) catch a soccer game; 5) stroll the streets and absorb the architecture; 6) risk death in a taxi; and 7) practice your spanish with the Argentine accent. It’d also be worth it to check out Mendoza (wine country) or Bariloche (to ski or hike) while you’re down there. Hope that helps!
I read Michael Chabon’s “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” soon after it was published and, as a result, have read most of his later novels, too. He has yet to disappoint me. He remains an unusually gifted writer.
Champion daddy’s don’t give their kids away. You deserve credit for finding the dog a home; but at least you tried for two whole weeks, right? You didn’t dig deep enough to give this meander a bite; why do you read so much philosophy but remain unable to truly worship? Or is it you still can’t love?
Pondering the whys, working through the whats…you can’t help but like the sound of this, not so much the content (the meaning) but the delivery, your delivery, its good. Anyway I couldn’t find anywhere to post a comment about the headliner of your review on Public Enemy in the Austin Amer. States. etc, where you noted Mann’s violence but still being beautiful (sorry, can’t remember perfectly, but felt it absolutely, it was spot on), It was in areas beautifully conveyed. Did you notice the gentle palette change in the scene at the airport at his arrival in Indiana jail? It was a soft sepia then gradually gave way to a bit of deep blue sky in the background above the horizon line (of course), deep blue hues above this imaginary line and the soft brown hues of sepia below this horizon lin. It was striking. There were others of note as well but this is sufficient to prove my point of concurrance and appreciation to your also catching this quality of the film and promoting it. Respectfully, Juanita Gotts, Austin TX
With the sea monkeys goes the final, briney remains of our living friendship. I’ll say a prayer tonight for the Omega Shrimp and celebrate the birth of Tessa with the flush of the last-surviving water primate.
very democratic representation of the band! I might buy an Eric Carr pair (RIP).
Who’s the skirt? Gonna have to build your own original BMX else use Ebay. Parts and old-timers aplenty in town; now since you got cash it’s actually fun; no tangly cables. I’ve seen the mag fiberglass rims too. Saw KISS the last time on their Lick it Up tour in Corpus without makeup. Got a close-up of Stanley’s rear-end in purple tights.
Right on man; though mans’ best bud needs a party pal way more often than a rodent and they chew alot and i won’t talk poop. I own four small funky dogs; Lou-lou, Bongo, Chile and Pulgita really love me. Did i mention you’ll meet chicks?
I am amazed to read your consciousness. Anonymous.
After leaving Austin, I think that more and more. I love my annual month there in the summer, but the places I’ve lived, worked and seen since leaving Austin fuel everything that is opposite of mediocrity and inertia. Kansai, Paris, Thailand(I live in Bangkok now),Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, with Borneo and Hong Kong planned for March. And no, I”m not teaching English for pennies (or baht, in my case), I am “just” a high school math teacher doing the same thing I could be at AISD, but going so much further with it all. Work is my downtime. Travel is the hard part, but also the most enriching.
At least you know it’s a crap assumption. I bet you spent alot of your youth rumbling over it. Now, let it go; get a pet and love again.
Why should it?
You have to get a Visa. They’re about $130. There’s a Brazilian Consulate in Houston. FYI*
Poor squirrel. Next time let him eat the fries.
Why would you screw a poor squirrel out of his french fries?! Shame on you. Sounds like a great week otherwise!
Duuude…i’m crying with you.
My god-rat. Tammy Sneezette. RIP.
Sorry for your loss. hope she’s having fun in rat heaven.
Little sweet Tammy. I remember the day you were adopted. I like to think that I helped influence your Papa into picking the tiniest, blonde that day. You will be missed…
