StarChefs.com Rising Stars Revue to feature food, drink from some of Austin’s biggest names

The online trade magazine StarChefs.com has selected more than a dozen chefs and industry professionals from the Austin-San Antonio area to receive the website’s annual Rising Star Awards. The winners will be serving food and drink at the Rising Stars Revue gala on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Driskill Hotel.

StarChefs.com selects four American cities in which to name its Rising Stars each year, and this year represents the first time chefs from Central Texas will be recognized.

“Whereas other cities like Portland or San Francisco tend to trend together, the Austin-San Antonio food scene is full of individualists,” says StarChefs.com Managing Editor Will Blunt. “Whether they’re doggedly preserving traditions or innovating new cuisine types, everyone is doing his or her own thing—idiosyncratically, stubbornly, wonderfully.”

The winning chefs, artisans and restaurateurs — David Bull (Congress), Ned Elliott (Foreign & Domestic), Aaron Franklin (Franklin Barbecue), Bryce Gilmore (Barley Swine), Rene Ortiz (La Condesa), Paul Qui (Uchiko), Quealy Watson (The Monterey), Andrew Wiseheart (Contigo), Plinio Sandalio (The Carillon), Philip Speer (Uchiko), Michael Sohocki (Restaurant Gwendolyn), Josh Watkins (The Carillon), John Bates (Noble Pig), Brandon Martinez (Noble Pig), Tyson Cole (Uchi) and Jason Dady (Tre Trattoria) — will be offering small plates with beverage pairings from the winning sommelier (June Rodil of Congress) and mixologist (Jeret Peña of The Esquire). The event will be hosted by chef Jonathan Gelman of the Driskill Grill.

Tickets for the Rising Stars Revue cost $85 or $125 for VIP access. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit StarChefs. com/tickets or call 212-966-7575. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
