Amy Simmons of Amy’s Ice Creams on ‘The View’ on Friday
It’s not every day that “The View” calls and wants you to fly to New York with 100 pounds of ice cream packed on dry ice.
Late last week, a producer from the ABC talk show called Steve and Amy Simmons of Amy’s Ice Creams to see if they could be on a show for a segment about national ice cream month.
Steve Simmons said Tuesday afternoon that once they figured out how to take all that ice cream on a plane without getting it confiscated, they headed to the Big Apple for a taping earlier today. “You can take 5.5 pounds of dry ice per person,” he said, so they packed dry ice around 107 pounds of ice cream and checked the box in the belly of the plane.
“The segment was on unique flavors, so we brought our Shiner ice cream, Canadian bacon brittle and smoked jalapeño,” Simmons said while he and Amy were sipping on a celebratory cocktail after they’d taped the segment that will air during the show on Friday, which airs at 10 a.m. on KVUE.
They also brought a “trickster” named Evan, one of the store’s scoopers who can do tricks with the ice cream, who did his trick in one take. “We took photos with Whoopi and hung out with Denis Leary in the green room,” Simmons said. “I don’t know who Bethenny Frankel is, but she was there and Denis was going crazy for her. She just looked like another tall lady to me.”

@mdlonghorn
why are you such a curmudgeonly grouch? it’s a local, homegrown business and part of austin’s unique vibe. if you don’t want local news, don’t come to a local news site. i’m sure foreign policy and the financial times have plenty of stories on Darfur, ***, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, European debt crisis, etc.
See you there.

Steve called the ice cream by the wrong name (way to go!)… it is called “Maple Bacon” not Canadian Bacon Brittle. I’m thrilled that Amy’s is getting such great attention because they certainly deserve it… I just wish someone more fitting had given the interview than Steve… who didn’t even know his own company’s flavors. Way to go, dude!

I helped train Evan, the ‘trickster’ and Amy is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.
@mdlonghorn
Don’t hate! It’s awesome that a local company, around for 26 years now has caught the attention of some big named people. Just because you don’t like ‘The View’ or don’t like Amy’s, at least respect what she does. She started Amy’s with one store and we now have 14 in the ATX alone!
Honestly it’s the best company I’ve ever worked for. The love we all have for each other is amazing. And I’m thrilled to be a part of that family.

I wonder how many kids in Austin these people have put in risk for diabetes or obesity. Kinda ironic that two health freaks own the most unhealthy businesses in Austin.

I take extensive issue with the fact that the trickster isn’t identified by name. Especially considering he’s quoted extensively. (Also, as someone who used to work for Amy’s I’m curious: what’s his home store?)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Emily! I didn’t talk to Evan, the trickster. All those quotes are Steve’s. I’ve clarified the post.
Thanks!
