Hailing from the Ozarks, Addie Broyles expanded her cooking (and eating) skills on the West Coast and Spain before settling in Austin, mainly for the aguas frescas at the taco stand down the street from her house where she, husband Ian and son Julian are now attempting to grow their own food in the backyard. They recently welcomed another baby boy and two chickens to the family.
Relishing food is about taking time to enjoy what has become the often hurried and mundane task of nourishing our bodies. Relish Austin is Addie's search for things that make her go "mmmm." High brow, low brow. Fast food, slow food. In Central Texas. On the Web. On the streets. In your garden and in your kids' lunch box. In your refrigerator and on your dinner table.
Relish Austin is also the name of Addie's print column that appears in the Austin American-Statesman a few times a month.
Unless otherwise noted, all photos are by Addie Broyles.
"Try some of Austin's best margaritas on our Gowalla trip. Just don't try them all in one day."

If the growing blogroll of Central Texas food blogs over there on the left hand side of this blog isn’t evidence of a strong, vibrant food blogging community, the images (and these great pictures from Yelper Michelle Cheng) from the food blogger potluck we had last weekend might persuade you.
Several dozen food bloggers (and their fans) gathered at the South Austin house of Penny de los Santos, a photojournalist who now specializes in food. (When the Texas issue of Saveur comes out this summer, which de los Santos shot almost entirely herself, you can see her beautiful pictures in print.)

Dishes ranged from pate and veal sweetbreads (the chicken fingers of the offal world, according to Ryan of Nose to Tail at Home. yum, yum!) to vegan quinoa salad and the most delicious coffee brownies I’ve ever had (if the baker of these brownies would please step forward, I would very much appreciate the recipe). Mando Rayo of Taco Journalism brought his El Mundo de Mando Taco Factory and whipped up chicken tacos on site. The Tipsy Texans concocted a “tea” that didn’t contain any tea but did feature a black currant liqueur.
Thanks to everyone who came, and I’m already looking forward to the next potluck…
And to the thousands of readers who read (and comment on!) Central Texas food blogs, thank you for taking the time to make food blogs a part of your day.

The brownies were mine. But I have to admit… I used Ghirardelli box brownies and added ground up starbucks chocolate covered espresso beans. Tasty and easy, although probably cheating for a food blogger potluck. oops. Good thing I was only a “fan” there instead of a food blogger. hahaha.

Well done, Cara. Great idea to add chocolate-covered coffee beans with boxed brownies. Can’t believe how incredible they were!
Good to see you, amigos. Hasta next time.

That was amazing, Addie! Thank you for organizing, Addie. And thank you, Penny, for being our gracious host. It was so great to meet more of the foodbloggers that I had only read and not had the opportunity to meet in person. It was also fun to see people lick their plates after eating the Cissi’s Market Earl Grey Moose stuffed eclairs. Too cute of a moment!
Thank you! Warmly,
Jette’ Momant

I wish I’d been there! Cara, I’m sure your brownies were excellent. Ghirardelli makes good boxed mix and adding coffee covers up any “box” taste…or so they say ;).
