DJ Sandy McIlree: What’s in Your Fridge Friday?

sandy.jpg
You probably know his voice, but would you know DJ Sandy McIlree by his fridge? The co-host of the “JB and Sandy in the Morning” show on MIX 94.7 bared his frigid shelves for today’s What’s in Your Fridge Friday.

McIlree, who just signed another five-year contact to continue to do the show that’s in its 13th year, and Hager might still be recovering from their 15th annual St. Patty’s Day bash downtown, but more likely than not, they are just taking in the city like everyday Austinites. (Last fall, McIlree told Out and About’s Michael Barnes that he is warming up to The Domain. He calls it “Disney for adult women.”)

These guys aren’t just about making you chuckle when you’re stuck in traffic; they’ve raised more than $1 million over the years helping their favorite charity, Bikes for Kids.

But a few jokes in the morning to ease you into a Friday never hurt.

What three things are always in your fridge? Diet Lipton Citrus Green Tea. I love this stuff and it has 0 calories, Horizon’s Organic chocolate and white milk, Claussens Kosher Dill Pickles, the greatest afternoon snack ever

What is your favorite condiment? My Mother-In-Law makes the greatest salsa I have ever had in my life. I always have jar in the fridge. I realize that is not available to everyone so, my other is Chalula Sauce. Better than Tabasco.

What is the strangest thing you’ve eaten during the 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. shift on the radio? We eat alot of strange things. A lot of local restaurants bring food by the station for us to try. Last week I had a Whataburger with Cheese at 6 a.m. and Pay Wei Honey Shrimp at 9 a.m.. Strange day.

It’s a shame you can’t listen to JB and Sandy without subjecting yourself and your son to tons of gay bashing.

I think my previous comment just made no sense. I need a nap. From them. We can’t listen to their radio show because of all their random gay bashing. Not, if you listen to their show, you will personally be attacked. Hope that made more sense.

The Bobby Bones Show is three times more offensive and juvenile!! Jb and Sandy is quality radio, and anyone who is offended by them is WAY too sensitive to be living in the times and city we live in. Chill out people.

Yeah, terrible show. Raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Dell Children’s Hospital pediatric oncology play area, they help get under privileged kids bikes at Christmas, they put on a show that adults and kids can enjoy, and generally enjoy their lives on air and in Austin. They should be fired immediately and replaced with cynical aging rockers so we can all feel better we’re not them.

I listen to the show every morning and have since I moved here in May. I have never heard any negative comments directed at gay men/women. I realize the show isn’t for everyone (I certainly wouldn’t let my children listen to it) but that’s the beauty of technology— change the station, read a different blog, find something you do like and move on.

I’ve been listening to J.B. & Sandy for over a decade now. They are good guys with big hearts. They do so much for the community, particularly with their annual fund-raising for Bikes for Kids, just one of many local causes they support. They may not be perfect (let’s see anybody else try to talk for four hours a day without offending anyone), but they at least reflect on what they do and try not to cause harm. They even wait until kids are in school before they get even a little “adult” in their conversations. And they are funny! No other radio show has ever made me laugh out loud like JB & Sandy do. I’m proud to call Mix 94.7 “my radio station”. And no, I don’t work for them or even know them personally. They have just brightened up my life for many years and so I couldn’t let these disparaging comments go unanswered.

Both of you are wack and have personal issues….. JB and Sandy are stellar and have NO competition in this area or any other. They are true gems with outstanding ethics in their show. Jenny, you must listen in a foreign language if you seriously believe they attack their listeners. Maybe you should get more rest.

Peter, your comments are interesting…. you follow their ratings?? You must be personally worried.

JB and Sandy rock and are true leaders in our community for ALL they do. I have listened to JB since he was in Dallas well before he and Sandy came to Austin. He has always been a stellar guy and the two of them can’t be beat.

Find another way to get out your personal frustrations, like maybe exercise… heard it is good for endorphins..

JB and SANDY are awesome…..

Wow, its a shame. Gay bashing on a radio, what about the news etc. I listen to JB and Sandy DAILY! I also have many gay friends and FAMILY. I think they are allowed to feel they way they want to about it. I LOVE the show! I’ve been in Austin 6 years now and its great that they are so open you feel like you know them.

Hey, nice fridge and I only drink Horizon milk it’s the best. As far as gay bashing, I don’t think so. Hmmm, didn’t they just have on Perez Hilton and they treated him very nice. Also, Brie did a good job interviewing the guy from Queer Eye when he was at the Domain. Sorry, but they seem like good people to me. I listen to them for about 3 hours a day.

JB & Sandy are the farthest thing from gay-bashers I’ve heard on Austin radio. Clearly someone with an agenda posting that!

Well Sandy did say under his breath this morning he hopes his friend’s baby boy-to be named Hudson-(the name Sandy & his wife picked for their baby before they found out it was a girl) turned out to be gay. If you heard the bit this morning, you would understand the context for which he said that. Sandy & his wife were upset their friend stole their baby’s name. In my opinion (which everyone has one), I thought it was a little risky for him to make that statement…BUT…that doesn’t necessarily make him a bad person. Like Puno Ellen said, no one is perfect and it’s nearly impossible these days NOT TO INADVERTENTLY OFFEND SOMEONE. Being politically correct has gotten way out of hand. I can name some other local radio stations that are beyond crass and are the clear definition of juvenile. Either way, it’s called the First Amendment. The DJs will say what they’re going to say, and if it offends you, then you have every right to not listen. I have been listening to JB & Sandy for 13 years now and they still keep me laughing. Sandy is a bit more risky and doesn’t hold back on his opinions & comments at times compared to J.B., but they still keep me and a whole lot of listeners entertained in the morning. =)

JB & Sandy is the best morning talkshow because it is LIVE and LOCAL. OK, so someone made a comment or two you took offense to, it’s called free speech, the same free speech you exercised to post your negative feedback on the www! My suggestion, try the NPR radio station.

I love starting out my morning in with JB and Sandy…highlight of my day usually. The only thing that I hate about the show….when they are doing something good and I can’t stay to listen…downloaded flycast just to continue listening before class….LOVE THEM!

Good for you JB& Sandy! If people are talking, you are doing something right.I am so glad you don’t do things politically correct. So many psople forget what’s right & do the politically correct thing. We all have opinions & should be respected for them. We may not agree, but its not for us to judge. Keep up the good work & keep us laughing. You ROCK!

JB and Sandy ROCK, they brighten my day. If anyone finds their show offensive then they need to seriously consider crawling back under the rock that they came from. FWIW they try very hard not to be offensive most of the time. Too many people get offended these days. Folks..get a life. JB,Sandy,Alex,Bri and Lauren…love you guys!!!! PS..nice fridge Sandy :)..looks a little too nice hee hee

I LOVE JB, Sandy, Alex, Bri AND Lauren!

They get my mornings started and keep me going when I can hardly keep my eyes open. For the last 5 years they have been a part of our “family.”

NEVER heard anything negative towards gays…does this person have the right guys??

Are you kidding me? Those first comments must have been written by some superior haters, because JB and Sandy are great! They definitely don’t bash their own listeners, and they help out the community a lot more than others, and are actually a joy to listen to. You can’t please everyone but they sure are close…

JB & Sandy have consistently provided imaginative, creative, and extremely humorous entertainment to Austin for over 11 years. I’m a loyal long time listener, and appreciative of their talent.

NEVER have I ever heard of “gay bashing” or anything inappropriate.. .until recently with the addition of Bri.

JB and Sandy have made imaginative innuendos to adult subjects, sensitive to children. Since Bri’s little Valentines “gift” to her boyfriend, the show has gone down hill. I shouldn’t have to explain to my son what porn, Craiglist swingers, or couple swapping is at 7:45 in the morning driving him to school. Last straw was looking at their video links, and Bri’s confessional about her “camel toe” from tight jeans.

Enough guys.. .you have more talent and class. She’s better suited for Dudley & Bob or Howard Stern.
