Chow-worthy SXSW parties: Uchi, fish fries and BBQ throwdowns

SXSW is about partying, and what’s a party without food? Although many, many of the SXSW events will include something to eat, the gatherings I’ve listed here are serious about what food and drinks they are serving. As with all things SXSW, everything is subject to change.

Official and unofficial free parties with a focus on food:

Mobile Social SXSW BBQ

Saturday, March 14, 4 to 6 p.m., Brush Square Park (West Tent, across from the Austin Convention Center)

It’s pedals not panels at the Mobile Social BBQ. Music. Food. Beer. Schwag. Raffle. Explore the intersection of bikes, technology, and culture with Bike Hugger. Sycons, the DJs of the Sun to perform.

The Great British Booze-up is back for its third year, and this time it’s personal. Rose’s Mojito and Rachael Ray’s Feedback

Saturday, March 21, noon to 5 p.m., Maggie Mae’s, 323 E. Sixth St.

With the success of last year’s party, this year’s Rachael Ray party is sure to be off the hook, er, oven rack. Bands include New York Dolls, the Hold Steady, Bob Schneider and, of course, Ray’s husband’s band, the Cringe. With Ray Ray in charge, you know the food is going to yum-o. Let’s just hope they make enough of it.
