Looking for some good iced coffee
We’re working on a story for next month about iced coffees. Anyone have some good recommendations? We’re going to highlight several from all corners of Central Texas, so let me know if there are some delicious drinks being served in your neighborhood!

The Pacha Latte at the adorable mom/pop coffeeshop on Burnet (4700 block)—PACHA—is the best iced coffee specialty drink in town, and believe me I’ve tried them all. It’s a home recipe with secret ingredients only known to 4 people—all family. It’s TRULY divine and there are many in that neighborhood who make the pilgrimmage there JUST for that drink.
While you’re there, try the fabulous french-chef-inspired food. Laurant (the pop in the mom/pop equation) makes BRILLIANT home-style french food for a modest deli case of lunch-type food.
I travel from south of the river to this place 3 times/week to eat adn drink the iced Pacha Latte. And there are other regulars who come—no lie—4 times a day.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I’ve heard several people recommend Flipnotics and how could I not to go Pacha Latte after Margaret’s review?! Cafe Caffiene and Summermoon were also on the recommendation list. Any other good ones out there?

Just ask for the regular iced coffee at Progress on East 5th. I’m not sure what they are adding (or if it is just their regular brew), but it has an especially mellow flavor that is perfect when the temp soars past 90.

It’s not here in Austin but if you’re down in Port Aransas this summer, the Venetian Hot Plate makes a tall, cold, seriously delicious iced coffee. Just order to go at the bar at the front door.

The iced mocha from JP’s Java on San Jacinto is so creamy and bold, not too sweet, and chocolate like you’re nibbling from a Hersheys as you drink. I hear rumor that the chocolate sauce is homemade and enjoyable also in pure form.

I’m a fan of the iced coffee at Quack’s, on 43rd near Duval. It tastes like fresh coffee, no bitterness, kind of rounded, mellow—very refreshing.

Summer Moon coffee has an iced coffee called Winter Moon that is worth trying, and of course Jo’s Iced Turbo is legendary. Austin Java’s iced mochas are just ok, but their iced Vietnamese is good if you can handle the heavy creaminess.

The Vietnamese iced coffee at Lulu B’s sandwich trailer on South Lamar (near Oltorf) is quite good.

Starting this summer, we have been doing a drink at our Sunset Valley Farmer’s Market coffee stand every saturday called Cappuccello. It consists of cold-brewed coffee concentrate (the base for the best iced coffees) shaken vigorously with lemon juice and lemon-infused agave nectar. The result is a refreshing coffee “mocktail” with a frothy head and a slightly sweet lemony zing.
I am glad Texans are finally warming up (oh my that’s a bad pun) to iced coffee—keep spreading the good word!

No question: The Iced Turbo from Jo’s Coffee. I dream about this coffee drink. I also like to make my own cold-brewed iced coffee.
