Upcoming Austin fitness events
I’ve already written about the Mamma Jamma Bike Ride on Saturday and the Trek Women’s Triathlon on Sunday.

- IBM Uptown Classic 10K — The kickoff event for Austin Fit Magazine’s Distance Challenge race series begins at the IBM Austin campus and meanders through the Domain shopping center at 8 a.m. Sunday. Choose from a 10K ($40; $45 race day) or 5K ($35; $40 race day). Online registration open through 5 p.m. Saturday. The race benefits the YMCA of Austin. For more information go here. - Ranger Stampede 5K and 1 Miler Series — This monthly race series is under way at the Texas School for the Deaf. Races are at 5 p.m. one Wednesday at month at the school’s track, 1102 South Congress Ave. Free for students age 21 and under; $2 for adults. Race dates are Oct 26, Nov 16, Dec 14, Jan. 25, Feb 22, March 21, April 25 and May 22. Water, Gatorade and snacks provided.
- Free yoga in the park — Yoga Yoga and the Austin Parks Foundation present free outdoor yoga classes from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday in October at Republic Square Park, 422 Guadalupe Street. The classes are open to all ages and abilities. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your yoga mat and sunscreen. For more information, call (512) 380-9800 or go here.
- Austin Heart Walk — The annual 5K non-competitive walking event is designed to promote physical activity and a heart-healthy lifestyle, while raising the money to fund research and educational programs. Teams are made up of employees from local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on the South First Street Bridge.
