Exercise flash mob to benefit Japan
The owner of an Austin exercise bootcamp is planning a calorie-burning “flashmob” that will pay tribute to Japan in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami disasters.
The public is invited to the 15-minute exercise session at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the patio of the Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Dr.
For a donation of $10 to the American Red Cross, participants will get a glow bracelet and glow stick to use in the flashmob.
The patio will be dark when participants arrive. They’ll put on the colored bracelets, and start by exercising to high-energy music, led by HEAT Bootcamp owner Cody Butler. At the 10-minute mark, the music will change and the group will shift to yoga. For the last few minutes, participants will fold to the ground and exchange their bracelets for larger glow sticks. Those with red sticks will move to a center circle and those with white glowsticks will fall back, creating a glowing image of a Japanese flag.
