Upcoming Austin fitness events

We’ve got tons of fitness events this month. Here’s a wrapup of what’s on tap. Get out and enjoy!
- Tour de Florence: Cyclists can choose from routes of 15, 35, 45 and 65 miles in the Tour de Florence. The rides start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at The Vineyard at Florence, 111 Via Francesco in Florence. Entry is $40 for singles ($55 for tandems) here. For more information call 254-793-3363.
- CureSearch Walk: The second annual CureSearch Walk - Austin, to raise funds for children’s cancer research, is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Hill Country Galleria. Hundreds of children, families, medical professionals and caregivers will walk in honor and in memory of children with cancer. Registration is $10 per person (children 15 and under free) here.
- The Women’s Race: This beginner’s adventure race features two-person teams running, hiking and splashing together over a course full of fun special tests. The race starts at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at Cedar Park YMCA, 204 E. Little Elm Trail and will take 1 to 2 hours to complete. Registration is $25 for ages 16 and under; $65 for adults ($75 late registration). To register go here.
- Hispano de la Salud: The American Heart Association hosts Hispano de la Salud, a health fair, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Lane. The free festival will include booths from more than 55 non-profit organizations, health screenings and more. For more information, call 338-2410.
- Team Luna Chix Wine Social: Team Luna Chix hosts a fund-raiser for the Breast Cancer Fun from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 at Mellow Johnny’s, 400 Nueces St. Bike and wellness clinic, plus complimentary wine and appetizers. Guest speaker pro triathlete Terra Castro. Raffle prizes include a Trek Belleville bike.
- National Gymnastics Day: Champions Academy Austin, 1314 Exposition Blvd., will mark National Gymnastics Day with free kids classes from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. For more information, go here or call 512-628-1788.
- Dilloman: The Dilloman sprint distance triathlon will be held on Sept. 18 at Pace Bend Park in Spicewood. This race consists of a 750-meter open water swim, a 20-kilometer bike and a 5-kilometer trail run. Entry fee is $60. For more information go here.
- Superhero Run: More than 1,000 Superheroes, many in full costume, will run on behalf of abused and neglected children in a chip-timed 5K and a Kids 1K at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 19 in the central plaza at The Domain, 11410 Century Oaks Terrace. Proceeds benefit CASA of Travis County, a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains volunteers to make recommendations to the court in the best interest of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. - Ride the Divide: The award-winning feature-length documentary “Ride The Divide,” which follows three cyclists as they take on the world’s toughest mountain bike race, will air at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 on the Documentary Channel (Channel 197 on DISH Network or Channel 267 on DIRECTV). The 80-minute film follows the trio day and night as they pedal more than 2,700 miles from Canada to Mexico along the Continental Divide.
- Rip Roarin’ Ride: Cyclists can choose from routes of 14, 28, 50, 65, 79 and 103 miles at the Liberty Hill Lions Club’s Rip Roarin’ Ride on Sept. 25. The ride starts and ends at the Liberty Hill High School on Highway 29 in Liberty Hill. On-site registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the ride starts at 8 a.m. Registration is $30 for singles (more for tandems) through Sept. 20, when prices increase by $10. Go here.
- Fight Gone Bad: More than 300 athletes will participate in the Fight Gone Bad workout from 8-11 a.m. Sept. 25 at Westlake High School, 4100 Westbank Dr. The event raises funds for LIVESTRONG Foundation, The Wounded Warrior Project and the CrossFit Foundation. Competitors will move through exercise stations, competing to see how may repetitions they can do in 1 minute. Fit and Fearless also will provide free demonstrations, training, and workouts. - Austin Marathon Relay: The Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay kicks off at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. Five-person teams will run a collective marathon, with one runner doing a 12K, two runners doing 10Ks and two runners doing 5Ks. Proceeds benefit Junior Achievement. Entry fee is $175 per team until Sept. 12, when it increases to $200. Registration is online here.
- National Public Lands Day: Friends of Big Bend National Park and the staff of Big Bend National Park will celebrate National Public Lands Day at Big Bend National Park on Sept. 25. Visitors are invited to help beautify the Persimmon Gap Visitors Center and get a behind-the-scenes briefing from park staff. Volunteers are needed to help with landscaping, trash pickup and updating exhibits. After lunch, the park’s fire management staff will discuss fire and land management in the park, and do a controlled burn for guests, weather permitting. Online registration is available here.
