Shed your clothes for Bare Buns 5K

DSC00070.JPG

Felt a little encumbered in the Capitol 10,000 last weekend? Peel off your clothes and join the Bare Buns 5K this Saturday at Star Ranch, a nudist camp 20 miles east of Austin.

Yes, the runners are nude, for the most part. Some women wear jog bras.

It’s part of a series of runs at nudist clubs in the southwest region of the United States. The Star Ranch is a family-oriented mobile home park and residential community.

“Ours is always the first of the season,” says David Phillips, who is helping to organize the event.

“Having worn my own rut in the glorious path around Memorial Park in Houston for several years back in my running days, I can tell you that our run is no walk in the park,” Phillips says. “The terrain here is uneven, and our soil is mostly beach sand. If there has been no rain for a couple of weeks before a run, that sand affords no real traction. It is more like cross-country running.”

Sounds tough.

The run starts at 1 p.m. April 17.

Registration is $25 for adults or $10 for children here. For more information email info@starranch.net.

This post is meaningless without pictures.

Ernie, I know! I requested photos, but was informed none were appropriate for a family newspaper or blog. Except the sign. Which isn’t wearing a thing, I might add. Pam

Hmmm children running in a nudist race? Are you sure this isn’t some pedophile’s wet dream? Or CPS’s for that matter?

Pedophiles do not like nudist resorts … Number 1, we supervise our children … Number 2, a pedophile would be spotted, since they would be the only ones seeing the event as sexual. A “nudist” is a normal person that finds it more comfortable and stress free to be nude. We are born nude, the wearing of clothing and shame of our bodies is taught, it is not instinctive of human nature. We wonder about the body image problems with the youth, yet it is we, the parents that TEACH them to be ashamed of their bodies. WE TEACH them that certain parts of their bodies are “dirty”. What a bunch of hooey.

Nudist children have lower pregnancy rates, higher self esteem and better social skills then those raised in body shame. They do not have to “play doctor” to learn what the other sex looks like, they grow up seeing the differences as perfectly normal. They grow up seeing all the different body shapes and think nothing of it. Children are natural nudists; we adults are the ones with hang-ups. Being nude is good, clean fun. Just remember back to your last “skinny dip” - most of have fond memories. The 5k is just skinny dipping with shoes on :)

Nude running is great fun. The feeling of “freedom” is incredible. My wife and I both run in nude races when we can find them, and really enjoy ourselves. For those of you worried about all your bits banging about, don’t worry. Men ran around naked for the past few million years without damage, you can too. Jog bras are helpful for some larger women. My wife says she it’s more fun without one, but then she’s not in that larger category. Wear a smile, a hat, and sunscreen….everywhere. You’ll have a blast..

If you find nudity offensive for its own sake ask yourself WHY. Those of us who happen to enjoy being clothes free accept that others prefer to be clothed. In the UK you are expected to wear a swimsuit in the Sauna or Steamroom, a ridiculous idea to many other Europeans. The Scandinavians have been open minded and civilised for years; why not us. And you may need to check naturistspace . org out there.

In this day and age, simple nudity outdoors should be no problem to society, when there are shootings and knifings every week. I hate wearing clothes except for protection from the cold or hazardous activities and regularly take clothesfree walks in our lovely countryside, occasionally meeting clothed(textile!) walkers but as they see me simply enjoying nature naturally we exchange a cheery good day and go on our way! Nudism is a fun, healthy, freeing and wholesome way for men and women to socialize and live without clothes. Naturism is a philosophy that values simplicity and increased harmony with nature. Naturistmingle offers a friendly and confidential environment for nudists to look for friendships, relationships, and resources concerning the nudist lifestyle.

Yuk!

If people want to do this - fine - so long as they stay on their own turf and out of sight of decent folk.

Please don’t cite what Scandinavians do. I live in Sweden and I have lived in Denmark and we are no more accepting on public nudity here in most circumstances than you do in the US. But don’t let the truth get in the way of promulgating a silly stereotype, eh?
