All other forms of entertainment considered, going out to eat is the one ticket everybody buys, whether it's fast-food cheap seats, big-steak luxury boxes or the chicken-fried arena seating in-between. Let American-Statesman and austin360.com restaurant critic
Mike Sutter be your all-access guide to the Central Texas dining-out scene.
In more than two decades at the Statesman, Mike's been a copy editor, Sunday editor, Page 1 designer and, for the past 14 years, XL art director. But after more than 700 XL covers, nine XL Dining Guides, managing the hundreds of listings in our restaurant database and writing stories about doughnuts, Vietnam and the Incredible Hulk, he'll finally be able to put his nine years of fancy restaurant job experience (thank you, drive through) to good use. This means he can write about trailer tacos on South Lamar, $250 anniversary dinners at Hudson's, smoking a cigar with Michael Moriarty at Louie's 106, brewing his own Anderson's Coffee stout beer and freeloading at kids-eat-free nights all over town.

Let’s call it Trailer-Vision, the superhuman ability to spot a taco truck from miles away.
Riding with Armando Rayo of Taco Journalism is like being a fighter pilot with your own radar man. “Al pastor on our six, Maverick! Flautas, I repeat, flautas, 12 o’clock!”
Check out our 10-stop taco tour here, then tell us your own favorites as I map out places for my next Tex-Mex-pedition.

TacoDeli, north 12001 Burnet, south 1500 Spyglass, is my all-time favorite Austin taco. Their ingredients are super fresh and they have a consistent selection of excellent taco choices. TacoDeli also offers some of the best sauces around, their Dona green hot sauce is addictive—beware!

Screaming Goat can’t be missed. It’s not in a trailer, but the best around. Lamar and 10th.

Taco Deli is by far the best taco stop in Austin. The Frontera Fundido and the Cowboy taco will bring you back again and again. The quality is top notch and I always leave overly satisfied. I wish they were open for dinner!

Hecho en mexico is a fairly new restaurant located in southwest Austin at 6001 W. William Cannon. It’s small & doesn’t have a spectacular view, but their beef fajitas ($6.00) and ceviche (7.00) are definitely worth the dine in experience! I would recommend this place just for those two items alone. I believe they’re also hiring, so contact them if you’re in need of a waiting/hosting/bussing job!

warcoy - You are judging this book by its cover. Try Tacodeli then come back and admit you were wrong.
