The Linkdown refrained from blowing the entire bank account on Cyber Monday, but just barely. Yes, the economy is in the tank, but we love a good sale. Here’s some tech-related events and news stories you should know about:
Events:
- Austin High Tech Happy Hour is tonight (Dec. 1).
- 1 Semester Startup demo day happens tonight at UT.
- Austin Random Hacks of Kindness deadline for registration is today.
- Big Data Love happy hour is on Friday.
- December is also DeSTEMber, says Girlstart.
- Shoebox, which makes the “1000memories” app, will be helping people digitize their photos Saturday at Little Walnut Creek Library.
- Video game art and consignment expo happens Sunday.
- Looking to get hired? Rackspace is hosting a “Rackerpalooza Network Security Edition” at its Austin offices Dec. 10.
- Trey Ratcliff hosts another Austin PhotoWalk on Dec. 10.
- The Refresh Austin holiday bash is on Dec. 13.
- Austin Social Media Club holiday party is on Dec. 15.
- December BASHH is scheduled for Dec. 15. Location hasn’t yet been announced.
- Skillpoint Alliance is looking for some volunteers for upcoming LEGO League Tournaments.

- Yahoo has released its year in review searches list. Top search for 2011 was “iPhone,” followed by “Casey Anthony” and “Kim Kardashian.”
- TED has launched an iPhone app.
- Austin-based Mutual Mobile was named one of Forbes’ most promising companies.
- Playlist party! Spotify has launched an app plaform.
- Path, the personal social network, releases version 2.0, rethinking some core elements.
- iPhone filmmakers: a little Steadicam-type device on the cheap.
- People be shopping: Cyber Monday sales up 33 percent.
