The Linkdown for Thursday, March 24
Now that we’ve got the sweet smell of South by Southwest Interactive washed off our bodies (OK, almost), it’s time to move forward and look at what’s been going on since we’ve been gone. Here’s what you should be checking out:
- Tonight is Austin Twestival at Molotov, benefiting Meals on Wheels. Tickets are $10.
- Tablet competitors finally get realistic with pricing from BlackBerry/RIM and Motorola’s Xoom that’s comparable to Apple’s iPad 2.
- Interested in animation? Austin School of Film is doing a talk next week.
- Austin blogger/podcaster Brad Jackson is a finalist for a “Sammie” award, presented by the Sam Adams Foundation.
- Ebooks/videos on sale to benefit Japan disaster relief.
- Speaking of which, SXSW4Japan has raised over $105,000 for the Red Cross to date.
- There’s a Game Investment Conference coming up in Austin, April 13.
- Austin’s Chaotic Moon Studios has been busy.
- GeekAustin HTML classes and CSS classes are coming up in April.
- Amazon’s own Android App Store has launched.
- AT&T + T-Mobile? That was surprising!
- Speaking of AT&T, they plan to cap broadband. Remember when Time Warner tried that? Oh, good times!
- Connected Texas report reveals that 62 percent of Texans have broadband. That number should be higher, right?
- Austin-based Wi-Fi Alliance introduces Wi-Fi Certified hotspots.
- Free touch-screen technology seminar happening next week.
- Time Warner launched an iPad app that allows you to watch live TV (but not your DVR recordings). Unfortunately, some networks might be opting out.
