The Linkdown for Friday, Jan. 7
The off-the-charts cedar in the air and this week’s gargantuan, energy-sucking Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas are just two reasons for a massive headache that is only starting to ease off today. The Linkdown hopes you feel better than The Linkdown.
Here’s what’s been happening:
- New Dell products announced at CES. Emphasis on 3-D, Android and tablet devices.
- Everybody wants 4G-connected devices even if they don’t know what “4G” means.
- For instance, AT&T seems to be stretching the definition a bit…
- The full-length documentary, “Reformat the Planet” about geek music (chiptunes) is available on Hulu for free!
- Apple’s Mac App store (like the iTunes App Store, but filled with apps for your Mac computer) has launched. I downloaded the free Twitter for Mac without incident and it works nicely. You need the Snow Leopard operating system to use it.
- A decade of NCSoft’s “Guild Wars”: a retrospective video.
- Tiger Woods dropped from the cover of his own EA golf game.
- Skype has acquired live video streaming company Qik.
- AT&T drops the price of the iPhone 3GS (hey, that’s MY phone!) to $49. I may need to encrust diamonds on mine to raise its value.
- Registration is open for Girlstart’s 2011 summer camps.
- Volunteers are needed for an upcoming Lego League championship taking place on Jan. 15.
- Motorola’s split into two companies and a new logo went into effect this week.
- Speaking of Motorola, its Xoom tablet is one of the darlings of the CES fest so far.
