The Linkdown for Monday, June 14: Extra Newsy Edition

There’s big tech news breaking left and right and so little time to keep up with it. The Linkdown needs a rare cup of afternoon coffee. Here’s what’s up:
- Microsoft just unveiled, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, “Kinect” (the new name for its Project Natal motion-sensing camera add-on to the Xbox 360) as well as a $299 redesigned smaller Xbox 360 that has Wi-Fi built-in and a 250 Gigabyte hard drive. Curiously, Kinect debuts Nov. 4, but no price was mentioned in the presentation. Microsoft is also bringing video-on-demand sports from ESPN to Xbox 360. Nintendo and Sony are next up with their E3 announcements.
- Starbucks says it’s bringing one-click free WiFi to all U.S. locations starting July 1.
- AT&T has sent a message to customers about the iPad 3G data breach.
- Hot on the heels of the American-Statesman partnership, Gowalla is teaming up with USA Today’s Travel section.
- MTV is seeking a Twitter VJ. A “TJ,” if you will.
- From last week: I wrote a piece for CNN.com about the future of remote controls.
- BioWare Austin has a bunch of job openings available related to its upcoming MMO, “Star Wars: The Old Republic.”
- Austinites I wrote about in a piece about mom bloggers appeared on a rerun of “Dr. Phil” today.
- “Video Games Live” will be shown on PBS.
- “Lord of the Rings Online” will go free-to-play this summer.
- Pre-orders start tomorrow for the iPhone 4 at locations including Apple Stores, AT&T stores and Best Buy.
