The Linkdown for Tuesday, June 1

The Linkdown can still taste hot dogs and BBQ sauce from a glorious Memorial Day weekend. Here’s hoping your holiday was restful, fun and observant.
Some links you should also be aware of:
- Game tournament season is in full swing. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, Gamerz Videogame Exchange hosts a “Super Smash Bros.” tourney while the Game Over Videogames Summer Classic Game Fest starts Monday in Round Rock and features a 9 p.m. screening of “The King of Kong.” Fun!
- Parents take heed: keep those disc-shaped lithium batteries away from small children.
- Google’s trouble with scoping out Wi-Fi data, explained.
- International Summer School is happening even as I write this at UT. If they discover a viable means of using fusion energy, at least you’ve been given a heads-up.
- Speaking of students, Fulbright scholars are also in town to show off some of their research.
- And on the education tip, The Game On! educational game development awards ceremony is later today for East Austin 6th graders.
- “Grease” the video game!
- Wired’s iPad edition went live last week. So far, I’ve heard a few complaints, not a lot of raves. It’s a huge download, over 500 megabytes.
- Advanced Pets have gone live in the game “Wizard 101.”
- Smart phones as hotel keys?
- Virgin’s Assurance Wireless service says it has launched in Austin.
