Austin-born ‘Epic Mickey’ is real, looks spectacular

Back when it was a mere slip of a rumor, bolstered by tantalizing, apocalyptic artwork, we reported on Austin game godfather Warren Spector’s crazy Disney Interactive project, “Epic Mickey.”

Now, according to a cover story in “Game Informer” magazine hitting mailboxes any day now, the game is real. Oh, so real. And it’ll be a Nintendo Wii exclusive from Spector’s Junction Point Studios (which is owned by Disney). Check out the magazine cover art (from Game Informer’s Web site):

The site plans to roll out new content related to “Epic Mickey” over the next month (I’m patiently waiting my print edition; I’m a subscriber).

On offering at the site right now is a great piece about Warren Spector’s Disney memorabilia collection and a video you can see below (see the original in HD on the Game Informer site). It’s a great video with Spector reminiscing about his childhood Disney love.

We can’t wait to hear more about what Spector’s doing with Disney’s stable of beloved characters. Can’t help but hope it’s indeed epic, and as twisted and dark as the artwork suggests.

Dear Omar and Jon,
Ive been an NPR/AAS junkie since grad school (though I'm an AGGIE!) and I listened to a recent (10/5/09) All Tech Considered program about the future of business cards and technologies such as scanners, BUMP, Text4Vcard etc.

I serve on the advisory board of a wonderful mobile engagement firm called Textopoly, and it's cofounder and Creative Director Naushad Huda came up with a way where we infuse the need to give contact info, but reduce clutter nearly two years ago.

As the story goes, Naushad was at an event did the unthinkable - left his business cards at the office. He immediately called the office for a quick fix and the Textopoly "greencard" (informal name) was born. Now we tend to use that instead of Bump because while we do own iPhones, many others dont, but everyone, from Boost Mobile, Virgin, Sprint clients, can and do use SMS.

Go ahead, give it a spin (text TAJ to the number 99134 for my greencard or NKH to 99134 for Naushad's). While this is not nearly the creative technology Textopoly engages in for clients such as Burger King, Comedy Central, NBC - I found it relevant due to your discussion.

And speaking of CTIA, if your here, come by and see us!

Keep those podcasts coming!
Taj
