Macbook Pro users reporting wireless issues
A blog reader and Apple Macbook Pro user shot me a message pointing me to this discussion forum where MBP users are complaining that they’re suffering from wireless woes.
The problem, according to posters, is that on some Wi-Fi networks, the laptops are either dropping their Internet connection or throttling transfers to dial-up speeds.
Given that the MBP is Apple’s flagship notebook (it’s pricier than the Macbook Air), owners expected that Apple would fix the problem with its most recent massive software update. Apparently, that didn’t do the trick.
Apple was said to have apologized last month to faculty from the New York City Department of Education after the issue led the department to cancel a large Macbook Pro order because of the issue.
Apple should have some major announcements on Monday and the last thing they need is this kind of publicity. Let’s hope a software patch is forthcoming and that it fixes up the problem for angry owners.

I just got my MacBook Pro two weeks ago and I cannot get a stable wireless connection in either Windows XP or Leopard. This is very disappointing after having spent $4000 on the top of the line, fully loaded, MacBook Pro.
Perhaps this is a hardware problem and that is why Apple has not released a patch or a firmware upgrade, etc.
I want some money back to compensate for the aggrevation, time wasted, and the expense of getting and external wireless card and using up a port on my MBP.

It will NOT keep a steady wireless connection. This is unacceptable for a top of the line notebook. This problem has been known to Apple for MONTHS! Where is the explaination? Where is the fix? Where is the customer support? My freind brought over a new $400.00 HP laptop which had NO PROBLEMS maintaining a wireless connection, while my $3500.00 Macbook Pro couldn't. Something is VERY WRONG WITH THE MACBOOK PRO!

My connectivity problem was fine up until the 10.5.2 update. I started losing connection after updating to 10.5.2. Being new to Mac, I thought the problem may have due to my wifi hardware but after replacing both modem and router, the problem still exists. A friend who had not experienced the disconnect problem suddenly started losing connectivity after the 10.5.3 update.

Bought mine maxed out back in Dec 07. Started having this issue late Jan - early Feb. Thought it might be the wi-fi router. Tried every conceivable combination of settings and the same stuff happens. Read the discussion board and waited with great anticipation the release of 10.5.3 but alas no joy.
Wonder what a MS commercial would be like touting that at least Vista can connect and keep a wi-fi connection! I'd pay a dollar to see that!
"Genius" bar at Apple store & call in care no help at all. HELLO APPLE???? IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
Funny how my two HP/Vista Home Premium laptops and my iPhone do not have this "issue"... come to think of it, it's not funny to pay a premium for what is suppose to be a premium product and not have it perform such a basic function. No it's not funny at all.

This problem has occurred since the start of the year, and new posts are being added every week even by those who bought the macbook pro as recently as last week.
Wireless works fine if you are using Windows on a macbook pro, which confirms it is an Mac OS problem with Macbook Pros. Macbooks other than the flagship pro are not affected.

Everyone (really!) involved in LaunchPad Coworking has a Mac - most have MBPs. We've been having lots of wifi problems. We've got an uber-geek helping with all our networking issues and he's been unable to solve it. He was starting to wonder if it was a Leopard issue.
This is LPC startup HQ for the next 3 months - my "solution" has been to add another batch of static IP addresses to my already outrageously expensive TWC Business class account.
Thanks for the heads-up that this might be a MBP issue!

I have a relatively new MacBook Pro 2.6ghz, and have not had the issue. I could not be happier! All I use is wireless in a variety of environments. Maybe this problem does not affect my model.
