Videogames to top music sales and other tech news
We knew the videogame business was big, but bigger than the music industry? According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, game sales will top music sales next year. Maybe instead of releasing their catalog on iTunes, the Beatles should consider turning their music into a first-person shooter game.
Other stuff around the Web:
- Apple adds YouTube to Apple TV and, in a super-sneaky-smart move, will be giving iPhone users the capability of viewing YouTube videos on the go. Not all videos, unfortunately. They have to be encoded into a special format to work on the iPhone. Still, YouTube in your pocket sounds awfully nice.
- Speaking of the iPhone, here’s The Onion’s take on the new device. PRAM ftw!
- My retro gadgets package (“The iPhones of their day”) went up today, including a video and photo gallery.
- Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions is offering SAT sample questions that students can view on their 5th-gen iPod. The $4.99 program includes three sections: Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. If you’re even more visually inclined, you can check out a vocab-building Manga graphic novel series on MySpace from the company.
- Flickr has chosen Blurb as its official book partner, allowing users to create, publish and share books. You know, real books, the kind with pages and binding.
- YouTube now has a video editor called Remixer available for use online. It looks fun and easy, two qualities that have made YouTube itself such a success. Other companies take note: Ease of use and a fun interface trump extra useless features any day. Even if your product launches a little buggy and slow.
