SXSW adds more female comics

After an online outcry over a lack of female comics on the SXSW comedy lineup, festival organizers announced that Chelsea Peretti, Amy Schumer and Jena Friedman have been added — along with noted comic and actor Kevin Pollak. Here’s more info.

When the SXSW comedy roster came out last week, some were upset that the list included only one female comic, Tig Notaro. In response, SXSW officials expressed disappointment.

“Programming an event like this is a constant process of building and repairing what falls apart along the way,” organizers said in a statement. “For various reasons, we lost several great comedians from our lineup as our initial announcement date approached. We hoped to include all of our participating comedians in that initial release, but adding others so late in the game is logistically challenging and it takes time to work out the many details before an artist is confirmed. “

In any case, the additions will be great for the show. Peretti is coming off a new Comedy Central special and audiences will remember Schumer from NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.”

Pollak, of course, has been seen in such films as “A Few Good Men” and “The Usual Suspects.”
