The Smittles of are keeping busy with several things but let’s talk about the new beer first.
Thirsty Planet’s Silverback Pale Ale is an American pale ale limited released brewed in conjunction with the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund’s January 22 fundraiser race, the Austin Gorilla Run. Establishments that will have the beer are competing for the “Silverback” Trophy by donating proceeds and there’s a Silverback Ale Trail here.
Brian Smittle says the ale is brewed with grains of paradise, an African spice wild mountain gorillas incorporate in their diets. In the beer, he says, it imparts a lemon-pepper quality “where the malt ends and the hops begin.”
And if you do that run in a gorilla suit, you’re going to need a beer at the end.
Second, they recently took possession of 500 additional kegs. Brian says business has been so good that he was running short of them. There they are getting unloaded in the photo.
Finally, they’re having regular tours and tastings on Saturdays. You need to go to the web site and register.
