Mean lawyer makes Barbed Wire Brewing change name

We talked about this upstart brewery, still in the getting-things-figured-out stage, which hoped to produce a line of Tex-Mex beers.

Well, Jim Sampson and his partners got a cease-and-desist letter from Sutter Home, which is sitting on a trademark application for Barbed Wire Wine. So there goes that. Sampson says their own lawyer “suggested we spend our money on starting our business and not on legal battles so we changed our name. In this whole process I found out that Pyramid was selling Barbed Wire Imperial Hefeweizen. Pyramid told me they had received the same letter and that they have stopped using the name also. Not sure how there can be consumer confusion between beer and wine but our crazy legal system seems to thing so.”

So. Say hello to Twisted X Brewing Co.
