Uchi’s June Rodil officially a wine goddess
Uchi’s beverage director has been named Texas’ Best at the annual Texas Sommelier conference a few days back. Edited press release:
Austin restaurant Uchi announced today that their Beverage Director, June Rodil, won the 2009 Texas Best Sommelier distinction at this year’s Texas Sommelier Conference that took place August 16-17 in Las Colinas at the Four Seasons Resort and Club (in Dallas). In its fifth year, this definitive wine event attracts top lecturers and wine aficionados from across the country. June won the coveted title after a rigorous three-part examination involving wine tasting, service and theory.
“The whole reason I went into competition was to get a feel for what the advanced testing was like, I did not expect to walk away with a win,” marvels Rodil. Born in the Philippines and raised in Dallas, June Rodil worked her way through University of Texas with a job waiting tables at the Driskill Grill which is where she began her intense interest in the world of food and wine, particularly wine. Although law school was her initial plan, June soon realized she only wanted to be an attorney so she could make enough money to eat and drink as she pleased. That realization led her to apply for a server position at Uchi with the full intention of pursuing a career that involved her love of wine. Now Uchi’s beverage birector, she is excited to be a part of Uchi as the restaurant grows and evolves.
