Zax Belgian wrap-up
So that was some rain Saturday, huh? Not the greatest day for much of anything outside, but by the time the third annual Belgian beer festival got going at Zax Pints & Plates it was just kind of dripping. And they had tents. And lots and a lots and lots of outstanding Belgian beers, including a few that were rumored to have been spirited out of Belgian farmhouses.
When you’re about 10 steps from about 30 outstanding beers, you know you’re in the right place. The Urthel Samaranth is oustanding, and at 11.5 percent alcohol a good reason to ask to see a food menu. Other favorites: Kwak, Maredsous 10 and Gouden Carolus’ Cuvee Van De Keizer, a dark, rich and malty elixir with notes of caramel and fruit. I loved it. If you have an opportunity to get your hands on a bottle, do it.

“Urthel Samaranth is outsanding” Agreed.
Was there anything “special,” as in beer unavailable in Austin.
