Man charged after baseball coach's home vandalized

Officials on Wednesday charged the one adult believed to have vandalized a high school baseball coach’s Austin home with seven juveniles in June, according to an arrest affidavit.

On June 2, Hendrickson High School’s baseball coach at the time, John Pineda, woke up to see his home and pickup vandalized with tomato paste, eggs, women’s underwear, bologna and lewd images, the affidavit said. Damages were estimated to be as much as $4,200, the document said

Martin Lara Jr., 18, of Pflugerville, was among the eight people who vandalized Pineda’s home about 2:30 a.m. on June 2, the affidavit said.

The document said a neighbor’s surveillance camera captured a dark SUV and a black full-size truck driving toward the home. Those vehicles, and some of the people inside them, were seen on surveillance footage from a Wal-Mart store where some of the same materials used to vandalize the property were purchased about 2 a.m.

Lara, who was charged with criminal mischief, a felony, was not in custody Thursday afternoon.

Pineda told police that he believes one of the alleged vandals, a juvenile who was not named in the affidavit, was one of his baseball players because they have had previous conflicts, the affidavit said.
