Police responded to a call of a disturbance involving a gun Sunday at Rekemeyer’s residence at 1202 West 29th Street, the affidavit said.

A man at the scene, Robert Hayden, complained Rekemeyer “had a gun and threatened to kill him,” the affidavit said. SWAT standoff ends in East Austin

Update: The Austin Police Department reported that the standoff ended after police entered the house and found nobody there. The man who they were looking for is still on the loose.

Police are searching for an African-American, around 5’ 7,” medium-to-heavy build with a shaved head, who was last seen wearing a green shirt and dark pants.

Scott Perry, spokesman for Austin Police Department said the man is not believed to be a danger to the public. Perry thinks his anger was directed toward a family member.

Earlier: The Austin Police Department SWAT is on the scene of a barricaded subject on Prock Lane in East Austin.

The East Austin street of Prock Lane is shut down between Estes Avenue to the west and its dead-end to the east while police try to negotiate with a man they believe to be armed and holed up in his home in the 5500 block of Prock Lane.

Police responded to a disturbance with gun call at 11:46 a.m. Saturday at the street and found a male laying in the street with lacerations about the head, according to Corporal Scott Perry, a spokesman with the Austin Police Department.

“He had not been shot,” Perry said. “It looked like he had been pistol-whipped.”

The suspect then fled into his own house on Prock Lane, police say the victim reported.

The victim is the boyfriend of the suspect’s sister. Perry said the dispute is being investigated as a family disturbance.

Police then set up a perimeter around the house and the SWAT team was called as part of protocol, Perry said.

“We’re setting up negotiations,” Perry said. “But we’re not sure if the suspect is in the house or not. We have not seen him inside the house.”

Police have tried to communicate with bullhorns and public address systems and have not heard any response.

No shots have been fired and police do not believe there are any hostages.

“Our method of contact escalates” as the standoff goes on, Perry said, but he said he could not divulge details.

He said the length of the standoff is “more dependent on the actions of the suspect than anything else. If he listens and responds to negotiators, it will end quickly.”

Police: Overnight SWAT standoff in South Austin apartments

Austin police say a SWAT standoff in which a man was keeping his infant child from the child’s mother in a South 1st apartment ended peacefully this morning.

Officer Dennis Farris said Austin police were called to the Estates at Southpark Meadows apartments at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday with a report that the father of an infant was holding the child in the apartment and would not let the mother inside. The mother and father of the infant both lived in the apartment, but it’s unclear whether they are married, Farris said. The man was possibly suicidal, and there was a report that there might be firearms inside the apartment, he said.

“Obviously our concern was for the safety of the child and the safety of the suspect,” Farris said.

The SWAT team was called out and after negotiating with the man for more than four hours, the man surrendered peacefully at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, and the infant was turned over to the child’s mother, Farris said.

The man was being evaluated Sunday morning, Farris said. No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, he said.

The infant was unharmed and appeared to be asleep through most of the standoff, Farris said.

Men accused of holding up to 25 immigrants in Bastrop County home

suspect1.jpg
suspect2.jpg

Two men have been arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping after officials say they held up to 25 immigrants against their will at a home near Dale in Bastrop County, the sheriff’s office said.

Juan Carlos Sanchez-Camacho, 29, left, and Nabor Rodriguez-Guillen, 20, were arrested Wednesday evening at the home at 380 FM 672, the statement said. Officials said Sanchez-Camacho is an illegal immigrant.

Six people believed to be from Honduras and El Salvador ranging in age from 27 to 46 years old were found in the home by police, the statement said.

A seventh victim escaped the night before through a hole in the floorboard and spent the night in a vehicle after breaking into it. The owner of the vehicle notified police of the break-in, and that’s what led to the discovery of the other victims, officials said.

The victim said that three men with assault rifles and handguns had been holding the people without food and water for three days, the spokeswoman said. Three female hostages were reportedly sexually assaulted, the statement said.

The captors had been in contact with family members of the hostages demanding more money for their release, the statement said.

SWAT teams from Bastrop and Travis counties, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Human Trafficking Task Force and Austin police helicopters assisted in the arrest, the statement said.

People at the home said that after the person escaped, the captors started shipping people out of the home, the spokeswoman said. Those victims included the three women, officials said. One of the captors also had left before authorities got there, she said.

The case is still under investigation, she said.

Both suspects are in the Bastrop County Jail with bail set at $700,000, the statement said.

The victims are being housed at an undisclosed shelter in Austin.

Officials said there is no reason to believe the case was related to the arrest in Austin this week of two men, 43-year-old Ismael Alvarez and 23-year-old Luis Adrian Lopez-Alegria, who are accused of holding hostage and torturing three victims who had recently crossed the border. Police are looking for a third suspect in that case, 44-year-old Tereso Lopez-Leon.
