Buda man charged with second sexual assault

San Marcos police charged a Buda man today with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault after they say he offered to give a woman a ride and then attacked her.

James Robert Montoya, 38, was already being held at the Travis County Jail in connection with another aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault case involving a woman who was walking home from a downtown Austin bar last month.

On Friday, detectives learned that DNA evidence they had submitted from the February 2011 attack in San Marcos matched Montoya, pictured at right.

Officials said that Montoya offered a woman with car trouble a ride to a convenience store, but instead drove her under a highway bridge near the Blanco River and sexually assaulted her in the back of his car.

Montoya is being held in jail on $300,000 bail from the charges in Austin, officials said. San Marcos Police Commander Penny Dunn said she anticipates that amount will increase after he sees a judge on this new charge.

Police: Missing woman, abductor spotted in New Braunfnels

Police say a Minnesota woman who is believed to have been kidnapped by her estranged husband last week may have been spotted in New Braunfels on Saturday.

Officials in Virginia, Minn., said Roberta Lynn Caskey was walking with her 9-year-old son and a friend Thursday evening when authorities say she was forced into a vehicle by her estranged husband, The Associated Press reported.

New Braunfels Sgt. Tim Brinkkoeter said Sunday that 40-year-old Timothy Glen Caskey was at KB Auto Sales & Service the day before with a woman believed to be 44-year-old Roberta Lynn Caskey, and he asked to test-drive a truck.

Brinkkoeter said the two went out in a 1998 Chevy pickup, and when they failed to return, he said, the police were called. A pickup that matched the getaway car in Minnesota was left at the car lot, along with Timothy Caskey’s driver’s license, Brinkkoeter said.

He said Timothy Caskey is considered to be a person with violent tendencies. Anyone with information should call 911, Brinkkoeter said.

Updated at 8 p.m. to correct that kidnapping happened last week.

Missing Kyle children located in Austin

Three missing Kyle children were located in North Austin tonight, and one is facing kidnapping charges, officials said.

Officials said Tuesday that they believed the eldest, 14-year-old Kendra Lee, also known as Alejandra Rodriguez, took her 2-year-old and 1-year-old sisters and drove off in the family’s white Chevrolet pickup last week. The three siblings were found in the area of Rundberg Lane, but officials did not release details because of a pending investigation and possible accomplices.

The two children were dirty but in good health and will be returned to their mother. Lee was arrested and faces two counts of kidnapping.

Officials said Tuesday that Lee has a mental illness for which she was not taking medication.

Man charged in connection with kidnapping immigrant

A man who police say kidnapped a Hispanic man who paid for help to get across the border was arrested Tuesday, and police say he could be connected to other kidnappings.

Felix Lugo-Medina, 39, was arrested at a meeting with Austin police detectives and charged with aggravated kidnapping, according to an arrest affidavit and police spokeswoman Veneza Aguinaga.

Austin police received a tip from Houston detectives this week that kidnapping suspects were staying in Austin, Aguinaga said.

Austin police set up a sting and surveillance operation in which Lugo-Medina was arrested and an immigrant man was located, an arrest affidavit said.

Acting on a tip from the immigrant, officers searched an apartment at 1710 E. Oltorf St. and found seven other potential victims, the affidavit said.

An investigation is ongoing, Aguinaga said, and more charges could be filed.

Lugo-Medina was in Travis County Jail on $200,000 bail Friday, jail records show.

Two kidnapping suspects sought

Police are searching for two men who kidnapped a woman last week on a Southeast Austin street before she was able to jump out of a moving vehicle and flee.

Officials said the woman was walking south on Burton Drive about 1:18 a.m. Tuesday when two men in a gray or blue Honda Civic stopped and forced her into the car. The car turned onto Oltorf Street but the victim was able to escape near Interstate 35. The woman was injured when she was inadvertently cut by a sharp object, a police spokesman said.

No detailed description of the two suspects was available, but police said the Civic had painted, 18-inch racing-style rims.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the homicide tip line at 974-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 472-8477.
