Backhoe frolic results in arrests
Two people who told Travis County sheriff’s deputies they had been drinking were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for joyriding on a backhoe loader Saturday night on the 19000 block of Packsaddle Road near Jonestown, according to an arrest affidavit filed Tuesday.
Karl Chouinard, 42, a heavy equipment operator, and Mary Ester Carey, 43, told a Travis County deputy they used a key Chouinard had to start the John Deere backhoe, owned by a private company.
A caller told deputies they saw one person driving the backhoe up and down the road, while another was hanging from the side, the affidavit said.
The owner of the backhoe told deputies they found one of the right tires flattened. The owner estimated that $3,000 damage had been done to the tire and rim, the affidavit said.
