Water main work to affect traffic near McKinney Falls parkway
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE AUSTIN WATER UTILITY:
Austin Water will begin work on repairing a significant water main valve from Sunday morning August 29th to Friday September 3rd.
Apparently a valve on a 24-inch water main failed during a routine replacement of a leaking fire hydrant.
A complete repair of this valve is two-fold to avoid shutting off water service to a large number of area customers.
The first part involved crews installing a new valve in an adjacent water main that runs in the area. That part of the repair was done last week and only affected service to some customers for a short period of time. This new valve will allow crews to isolate the damaged 24-inch valve without disrupting anymore service to the area.
However, traffic around the intersection of Burleson and McKinney Falls Parkway will be affected during the second part of this project which involves the repair/replacement of the damaged 24-inch valve. Detours will not be required, just lane shifts and reductions.
Austin Water Utility’s mission is to provide safe, reliable high-quality drinking water services to its nearly 900,000 current customers, and to ensure reliable water to its future customers.
