Keep it up, only 2.30 hrs to go now. Attended 2 previews, 2 sessions as a volunteer and the members party last night and I am just amazed at the number of people who have attended. My kids with a few friends attended the grand-opening from the early morning (about 1.30) to 7 am and had a whale of a time. They particularly liked the interpretative dance in the workspace and the cartoons in the morning.
The overwhelming success of the Blanton opening is only overshadowed by the overwhelming success. as someone once said “It’s always so crowded, no one goes there anymore”
Can anyone who is there today tell me if there is still a long line to get in? I went last night, but left because of the one hour plus wait in line. Thanks!
Michael, The South Pacific concert at Carnegie Hall is on KLRU now and Lilias White is singing Bali Hai with all her ‘flow-y’ glory, Alec Baldwin is losing his place to the delight of the crowd…Reba is a bit wooden as Nellie and tied to the script — a shame since she was the ultimate Annie Oakley. Meanwhile, Brian Stokes Mitchell sings the hell out of everything…please be my Porgy, Brian!!! What does this have to do with the Blanton opening? I’m not sure but the interpretive dancers in the hanging sculpture area can give it meaning. Perhaps it is that the Blanton has given Austin an enchanted evening…..happy cereal, yoga and cartoons to all those going to the Blanton now.
Art has fallen…curious: which one(s)?
What a disappointment. The publicity info said “late-night tango” but by the time we got into the museum at 11pm, the tango was long gone. Maybe it didn’t even happen, right? If a milonga falls in a museum and nobody is around to dance to it…
Also, they ran out of beer (and blantinis, from what I heard). Poorly planned event. Too bad.
On the upside, the museum is beautiful and the art lovely.
Sigh. I got there at 9:20, stood in line for an hour, got tired, left to get something to eat, returned at 11:20. Realized I would have had to get in line at the same place I started at at 9:20. I think I’ll go tomorrow.
