My kinda town … Chicago is

Last night’s show at Subterranean was one of my favorites of the tour. The other bands were great (thanks to Dan and friends for the recommendations) and it was a blast to play for a bunch of people from my Chicago crew. The Romeros and The Blissters had me jump up on stage for covers of the Outfield and Cheap Trick, respectively. This may not have been the best idea, as I am only somewhat able to harmonize when sober and not at all when intoxicated. But it was a lot of fun — “very Karaoke Apocalypse,” according to Adam. And we all know how I love the Karaoke Apocalypse. We even added in some Dolly Partners lyrics (“Conflict of light!) into “Share the Sound” as a shout out to one of Toby’s “other bands.”

The Personals were extremely well-received by the crowd. One guy who was at our Milwaukee show even came again and brought a friend. I wish we could have played longer, but the club was on a tight schedule. We are realizing that we’re spoiled by the chill attitude and almost family-like scene at our clubs in Austin. Everyone has been super cool on the tour, from fans to clubs, but there’s no escaping the fact that things are more rigid in most places where we’ve stopped (I am not talking about you, Kirbys Beer Store!).

I just can’t believe tonight is the last show. I really am not ready to go home. Adam, Toby, Patrick and I stayed up hanging out on my front porch in Wicker Park — hanging on the porch is very summertime in Chicago. I wish I could somehow merge my Austin and Chicago lives so we could do that more often.

We are about to walk out the door to meet Kristen and her friends in Nashville. We can’t wait to drive through the Smokey Mountains and to reunite with our recuperated drummer. Stay tuned …Love, Erin
