Criterion Collection and Violet Crown Cinema team for Arthouse Monthly series
The Violet Crown Cinema has teamed with the venerable Criterion Collection for a new series dubbed Arthouse Monthly. The downtown theater will screen selected films prior to their Criterion Blu-ray release. The selection kicks off with Yasujiro Ozu’s “Late Spring” and continues one Tuesday per month through July.
Future title include Hiroshi Inagaki’s “Musashi Miyamoto” (May 15), Charlie Chaplin’s “The Gold Rush” (June 5), which features a new restoration of the 1925 classic, and Jim Jarmusch’s “Down By Law” (July 3).
“Criterion is committed to bringing art house films to a wider audience, uncut and the way the filmmaker intended and that is definitely in line with our mission here at Violet Crown Cinema,”Violet Crown programmer Hunter Shaw said.
Screenings at Violet Crown will include giveaways of Criterion Blu-rays and free rental cards to Vulcan Video.
