Alamo’s Tim League talks manners, viral videos and offers an olive branch
Following the viral video phenomenon released by the Alamo Drafthouse, Tim League has taken to YouTube to discuss the video and the massive response it caused.
League says the video has led to some good discussions about manners, but he is quick to point that he is aggravated by the “.05 percent” of Internet users who have taken to making mean-spirited comments about the woman who left the voicemail. If he had his way, League says, those people would be banned from the Alamo and, if he had his way, the entire Internet.
The Drafthouse CEO also offers an olive branch of sorts to the anonymous commenter and says he would like to meet her face-to-face and, should they see eye to eye on the importance of theater etiquette, invite her back to the Alamo to watch movies.

Great peace offering, Tim, but keep on keepin’ on with the way the Drafthouse is operated. Not my favorite cinema for nothing!

This is why the Drafthouses are my favorite movie venues. No texting or talking allowed, no half-hour of commercials shown before films, plus good food and beer. It amazes and appalls me how many people who attend “regular” movie theaters seem to think it’s OK to behave like they’re in their own living rooms. Kudos, Tim.

It is very cool the stance against texting and/or talking on the phone while at a Alamo Drafthouse or any movie theater for that matter. This is very disruptive for the audience. But with all due respect Mr. League, your servers are equally, if more disruptive with the service they provide at your “unique movie going experience.” The quality of food and service in “dimness” is just okay and this compounded with people txting and/or talking would be horrible. I now understand why you emphasize and play up the need for no txting or talking. It totally compensates for the non-intentional very disruptive nature of your servers.

Wtf does tiny tim have to do with the price of tea in china? Alamo has a good policy it upholds. The statesman loves to lionize e-list local “celebs.” Tim runs a theater that also sells food. Nothing less nothing more. The emperor has no clothes.

it’s because of the negative publicity she’s getting, reinforced by that 0.05% of Internet users, that maybe she’ll get a clue, Tim.

I gave up going to the movies years ago for the simple reason of rude people and misbehaving kids. I fail to understand the adults that pay good money to go out to see a movie and carry on conversations loud enough for everyone to hear during the movie. Then there are the kids dropped off by their parents that are constantly running down the isles and in and out during the show. If you want to carry on conversations and run around during the movie, please wait for the DVD to come out and enjoy it at home.

I love the drafthouse for the stance against texting and talking in theaters. Im actually going to go to more movies there because of the stance they take. I shouldnt have to endure other peoples poor social skills. I applaud them for their willingness to do what other theaters fear to, which is keep a social activity enjoyable for all.
