More titles for AFF

The Austin Film Festival announced some late additions to its lineup today, with several high-profile titles. Here’s a quick summary:

— The Road, based on the Cormac McCarthy novel, and directed by John Hillcoat. Viggo Mortensen stars as a father who’s trying to save his son from cannibalism and all other sorts of violence in a post-apocalyptic world. Robert Duvall has a stellar supporting role. But that’s like stating the obvious. Duvall is always stellar. Screens Oct. 28 at 9:30 p.m., Paramount.

— The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Viriginia, directed by Julien Nitzberg. From MTV Studios and executive producers Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine, this movie takes a look at a legendarily violent family in the mountains of West Virginia. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 10 p.m., Texas Spirit Theater.

— The Fourth Kind, directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi. Milla Jovovich, Will Patton and Elias Koteas star in this thriller about encounters wit UFOs in Nome, Alaska, where numerous people have been disappearing every year since the 1960s. Sunday, Oct. 25 at Texas Spirit Theater.

— Facing Ali, directed by Pete McCormack. Ten rivals of the Champ talk about their experiences. Sunday, Oct. 25, Alamo Ritz.

— Youth in Revolt, directed by Miguel Arteta and written by Gustin Nash. Michael Cera stars in another coming-of-age comedy, based on the novel by C.D. Payne. It focuses on a young man who has a taste for Fellini and Sinatra and falls head over heels in love while on vacation. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Paramount.

— An Education, directed by Nick Hornby. This has a great lineup indie stars: Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina, Dominic Cooper, Emma Thompson and Olivia Williams. The story centers on a young college-age woman who falls for a 30-something suitor. Saturday, Oct. 24, Alamo Ritz.
